Back from the Cat House
Sigh…It’s been a long time since I was at EFBC/FCC. For those of you who haven’t been with me for the last couple years and seen all the tiger/ocelot/leopard/jaguar pictures, this is the Exotic Feline Breeding Compound/Feline Conservation Center in Rosamond, California. If you know where Palmdale and Lancaster are, just keep going east on the 14 until you hit the Rosamond Boulevard/Edwards Airforce Base exit and hang a left. Go a few miles and look for the big green sign with the leaping leopard on it.
I am physically wiped out from the drive, so I’m gonna keep this short…also, I have a very detailed essay about my experiences working at EFBC on my website here.
And even better, here are photos by Nancy Vandermey, rocket scientist, EFBC docent and board member, and photographer extraordinaire, of four new felines: Kali, fishing cat (born at EFBC); OBI, serval (one of our few rescues; Rocco, jaguar (born at EFBC); and Thumper, Canadian lynx. Both Kali and Rocco are being hand-raised. Could they be any cuter? I don’t THINK so…

Oh my gosh, those tiny faces and great big feet! Cats are adorable no matter how wild.

I don’t suppose they’d let me adopt Rocco, huh?
My all-time favorite animal name is one of the fishing cats I saw in the nursery at the San Diego Wild Animal Park. His name was Rather Be!

They ARE adorable, aren’t they. (And I more than suspect they know it.) Cats of all stripes have their cunning ways of getting what they want. The only way to deal with this is to LET them. It’s certainly the easiest way and avoids unpleasant side effects of resistance. You surely know your felines. And it’s obvious they know you. LOL.

Is that a toy or someone else’s tail that Kali is about to swat?

Seriously too cute!

The cute factor is off the charts, ain’t it?
Peggy, the fishing cats at the zoo originally came from EFBC. Not the ones in the nursery, but we gave them several of our fishing cats to work with in their breeding program. They are so adorable and make the cutest noises… I THINK that’s a toy, but entirely possible it’s someone’s tail…Ya never know around that joint…
You are quite correct, Jack!

Yeah, Rocco and Kali are amazingly adorable; and Caesar, the 500 lb tiger at EFBC is just as big a kitten as they are - what a love boy!

The cute factor of these felines is illegal in certain states, I’m telling you… I’m glad you all stopped by to see them! Now if you’re ever in Southern California, make it a point to go and see them in person. You will never regret it!
SHeina, I am with you on that…
